Canal Cruising - England's Hidden Treasure

entering a lock

'What makes it different from other holidays? '
You have your holiday home with you at all times, no need to drive, stress free with little traffic to worry about.
A much slower pace of life, opt out of the hectic rush of the 21st century.
Travelling at a leisurely walking pace the scenery is ever changing. This allows you plenty of time to observe and enjoy the wild life around.
Choose a route that is either energetic or meandering; visiting museums or theme parks; keeping fit and having fun travelling through our green and pleasant country side.
Rivers and Canals flow through areas of Britain hidden from the roads, unknown and unseen by most, but they can also take you to Britain’s most famous historic towns such as Windsor, Bath, Chester, Oxford and York.
For a glimpse of city life, you can moor in London, Birmingham, Bristol or Manchester.
happy crew
Let’s start with the boats, all Teddesley boats are built here, in our yard, with my personal attention to detail. The boats have full sized berths together with all “mod cons” such as central heating, ample hot water heated by the engine, fresh water flushing toilets, fridges, full sized cookers and sit-in shower baths. There is also a television and radio, should you feel the need to keep in touch with the real world!

Once you’ve boarded your boat, cruise our waterways at your own pace. The more energetic may choose to complete a circular cruise, perhaps embarking on the “Four Counties Ring”, which takes in Staffordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and (briefly) the West Midlands. Others decide to linger a little along the way, choosing a ‘there and back’ cruise via the historic towns of Stone, Stourport or Market Drayton. This gives them more time to discover the delights beyond the towpath, such as the world-renowned Wedgwood Visitor Centre at Barlaston or Shugborough Hall - the home of the Earl of Lichfield, the famous royal photographer.

If you’ve never been on a canal boating holiday before, then you needn’t worry about handling a boat. The traditional tiller steering is easily learnt and we have the benefit of a lock right beside our boatyard where we give you full instructions on how to operate the boat and its equipment safely. As members of the Royal Yachting Association’s Inland Waterways training scheme we pride ourselves upon our comprehensive handover. You can rest assured that you won’t leave the boatyard until we are confident that you can handle our boat.

Whatever you choose to do, you’ll find that once you’ve booked the boat, you don’t need to spend much money on entertainment as working the locks and steering the boat though beautiful countryside provides entertainment itself. Ofcourse, if you want to splash out a little, there are more than enough pubs along the way should you decide to eat out - with none of the hassle of having to drive home as you can often moor up right alongside!

'This is a holiday designed for every member of the family.'
A canal holiday has many attractions for children, they can help to work the locks or steer the boat (under supervision). They’re also able to explore the towpath with its flora and fauna or spot herons, moorhens and kingfishers. If they want to do more then you might like to combine your cruise with a visit to Festival Park, Stoke on Trent, where the country’s biggest indoor water park is located by the canal, together with a dry ski slope and superbowl centre. There are swimming pools at many of the small towns alongside the canal, Market Drayton even boasts its own Lido! Another popular destination is Drayton Manor Park, which is a theme park next to the canal at Fazeley near Tamworth. outdoor living

'The Fleet'

The interiors are fitted out in either Sapele and Ash or Cherry and Ash, with mahogany mouldings and light ceilings. Soft dralon upholstery and interior sprung mattresses on permanent double beds. All boats except Tricia are carpeted and have 240v electricity.

Each boat has a well-equipped modern galley, with a full size stainless steel sink, full size cooker with grill and oven, electric refrigerator and plenty of storage space and a full inventory of matching crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. An inventory list can be sent to you prior to you holiday.

All boats have a mixture of hopper windows and sliding windows in the Galley and Bathroom for extra ventilation.
